Dr. David M. Somers, DPM

Dr. Somers was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and grew up both there and later in Aiken, South Carolina. After high school, he attended the University of South Carolina at its Aiken Campus, receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 2001.

Following this, he enrolled at the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine (now the Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine), from which he earned his DPM degree in 2005. While there, he served as his class secretary, was a teaching assistant in anatomy, and received the William L. Goldfarb Foundation Education Award at graduation. Dr. Somers entered the residency program at the Harvard Medical-affiliated Cambridge Health Alliance in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he received comprehensive training in all aspects of podiatric medicine and surgery.

After completing his residency in 2008, Dr. Somers worked for private practices in the Boston suburbs for a year. He then decided to return home to South Carolina in 2009 in order to be closer to family and to leave the more stressful Boston life behind, at which time he joined Palmetto Podiatry Group of Anderson.

Dr. Somers is certified in foot surgery by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery and is a Fellow in the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. He is also an active member of the American Podiatric Medical Association and the South Carolina Podiatric Medical Association, and is currently serving as secretary for the state association.

When Dr. Somers is not providing podiatric care to the residents of the Upstate and surrounding areas, he enjoys snow skiing, hiking, photography, cooking, reading, and travel. He is also a craft beer enthusiast and an avid fan of all the sports teams from Pittsburgh.
